16-18th January 2009 - Raising money for Koh Samui Nathon Hospital

In April 2006, three motorcycling friends (one Thai, one English and one Austrian) decided to drive together to attend the Phuket Motorcycle Charity and Bike Show weekend.

During that weekend they met and made friends with many riders from the numerous Thai Motorcycle Clubs also attending the event.

The camaraderie and sense of brotherhood between all the bikers was fantastic.

Once back on Koh Samui, the three friends decided to start a Koh Samui Motorcycle Club.

As this island was used as a base for Chinese pirates in the eighteenth century, they decided upon the name of the "Samui Pirates".

The Samui Pirates Motorcycle Club was established on 6th June 2006.

Important Announcement

It was with great sadness that Kevin, SPMC President, made the following announcement earlier today regarding the Good Heart Bike Weekend;

"Dear fellow bikers,

It is with much regret that we have had to POSTPONE INDEFINITELY our first Charity Bike Weekend.

Due to the global economic crisis and the political problems in Bangkok, tourist numbers are down 70% on Koh Samui.  This has caused big problems for our local sponsor and donors.  All hotels, restaurants, bars and local businesses  are suffering from a large drop in business and are unable to donate the money they had promised.  This means we do not have the upfront cash to organize the event.

When tourism to Thailand returns to normal, we will go ahead with our event.

Many thanks for your understanding.

Kevin.  President.  Samui Pirates MC".

Help Us To Help Them

Samui Pirates Motorcycle Club (SPMC) is organising a Charity Biker’s weekend on 16-18th January 2009.

We are raising funds to buy essential heart equipment for Koh Samui Nathon Hospital. This is the only hospital that local Thai people are allowed to use with their Government insurance card (paid for by individuals at 30baht each).  The hospital is predominately used by local Thais but is massively under funded and in need of many vital items of equipment. Our target is to raise in excess of 400,000 baht to provide them with the equipment they so desperately need.

A brief timetable of events as a follows;

1) Friday Night (18:00 hrs onwards);
Free food and live music at Samui Pacha nightclub, Soi Reggae, Chaweng

2) Saturday (14:00 - 06:00 hrs):
A full days entertainment is planned at Chaweng lake View is being organised for the Saturday - including a family themed afternoon and a huge Rock'n'Roll concert in the evening. Peripheral charity fund raising activities (a raffle for a motorcycle, collection boxes in hotels etc.) are also being organised. There will also be an Auction on stage.

3) Sunday (14:00 hrs);
Samui Pirates will be organising a ride round the island on Sunday afternoon, culminating at a visit to Koh Samui Nathon Hospital.

We welcome fellow bikers from Clubs in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and further afield to come and "help us to help them".
